Ashish Kothari

Ashish Kothari taught at the Indian Institute of Public Administration and coordinated the Indian process for a national biodiversity strategy and action plan. He worked for Greenpeace International and was a member of numerous expert committees of the Indian government, such as the committee for the implementation of the „Forest Rights Act“, the „National Wildlife Action Plan“ and the „Biological Diversity Act“.

He is closely associated with the Eco-Swaraj movement, a form of „Buen Vivir“ that motivates millions of people by rediscovering the communitarian roots of participatory democracy in harmony with the cycles of Mother Earth.

Ashish Kothari is a member of the Great Transition Initiative, an online forum of ideas and an international network for the critical exploration of concepts, strategies, and visions for transitioning to a future in which we act more respectfully between humans and increasingly considerate nature. He is co-editor of ‘PLURIVERSE – a dictionary of post-development’ and co-author of ‘Churning the Earth‘ and ‚Alternative Futures’.
