“The love for the beauty of nature and women led me to God and the love of God to revolution,” reads one of Ernesto Cardenal’s passages. This quote describes a work that has touched, inspired, and changed readers as well as listeners all over the world for decades.
Ernesto Cardenal, the well-known poet and revolutionary, doesn’t only read from his lifework but also deals with contemporary problems. The most popular example is his fight against a controversial mega project – the construction of an inter-oceanic canal in Nicaragua by a Chinese company. The project could also affect the Isles of Solentiname, the location of Ernesto Cardenal’s early Christian parish. That’s why he lays great importance on teaching the audience about the social and ecological dangers for a country like Nicaragua. Lutz Kliche, lecturer, literature mediator, and the translator of Ernesto Cardenal’s works, reads the German translation.
Ernesto Cardenal ‘s readings are accompanied by Grupo Sal – the artists have been friends and successful partners for decades. The formation Grupo Sal Duo affects the audience in intimate ways: Grupo Sal Duo excels in the interplay of contemporary Latin American songs with the literary performance.
The tour is carried out in cooperation with “Pan y Arte”, the relief organisation for Nicaragua by Dietmar Schönherr and Henning Scherf.
